The Best Pram Friendly Walks in the Lake District!

Updated: Nov 16, 2022

The lake district is one of the best family holiday destinations in the UK and one of the best ways to get out and about with your baby in the Lake District is to go walking with a pram, so you can take in the stunning scenery while getting some fresh air and exercise on your family holiday. Of course, it can be hard to find good trails which are also suitable for prams, so here’s our pick of the best ones out there for your family travel. Enjoy!

Windermere

The lake that gives Windermere it’s name is one of its most popular attractions, as well as one of England’s largest natural lakes. It lies nestled at the base of a beautiful valley and is surrounded by wonderful, breath-taking scenery. If you want to get close to nature but don’t fancy slogging it over tough terrain, then walking on or alongside Lake Windermere is ideal. Head up the pram friendly track to Orrest Head for stunning views over the lake (a personal favourite to us at dads travel).

Newlands Valley Walk

Alongside Ullswater, Newlands Valley is one of Lakeland’s most famous beauty spots. The public path that wends through it has been classified as ‘Grade I listed’ since 1961, which is testament to its natural beauty. There are public footpaths that wend their way along either side of Loughrigg Tarn – an idyllic lake – as well as along countless other features throughout Newlands Valley.

Elterwater to Skelwith Bridge

This gentle trail skirts Elterwater on its way to Skelwith Bridge. Puffing up nearby Blackmoor Hill, you’ll be rewarded with picturesque outcrops of rock on your left. Keep an eye out for red squirrels & cows. If you’re lucky, you might even spot a deer or two! From here, follow the undulating path through old stone walls until you reach Skelwith Bridge.

Tarn Hows, Coniston

Tarn Hows is possibly one of Britain’s most picturesque lakes. It nestles under Dow Crag, near Coniston, as well as having a number of smaller lakes dotted around it. Although some parts of Tarn Hows can be walked to from Coniston village, other bits are further away, meaning you will need to take your car if you want to walk around it all.

Grizedale forest

Grizedale is one of our favourite destinations to walk around with a pram, as there are great pathways, wooden bridges, waterfalls and wildlife to spot along every turn.

Ambleside

Considered to be one of England’s prettiest towns, Ambleside is also one of Cumbria’s most popular locations – especially when it comes to tourists visiting with kids. With so much to offer, there’s no doubt that a walking trip up here will be fun for all.

Although all of these are perfectly pram friendly whatever type of pram you have, i would recommend investing in a "Jogger pram". These are all terrain prams which will make life so much easier when visiting the beautiful Lake District! Thanks for visiting and please click here for more from my adventure blog.
