Our wedding at the Riu Cancun: a day we'll never forget!

Back in 2019, we decided to tie the knot, and we always dreamed of getting married overseas, somewhere sunny! It’s hard to believe that our wedding at the Riu Cancun is over and done with, but we couldn’t be happier to have spent our day surrounded by family and friends, celebrating our love and growing together as one! It was overwhelming to get 50 friends and family travel from the UK to Mexico just for our special day. A typical group of brits abroad! We had such an amazing time, and were blown away by how perfect everything was! We absolutely love our photos from this day, so we wanted to share some of the best ones with all of you! The Hotel
We loved our stay at the Riu Cancun. The hotel was beautiful and located right on a pristine beach. The food was great, drinks were always flowing (even the room was well stocked with beers, spirits, water & soft drinks), and it offered anything you could want from poolside barbecues to nightly shows. Plus, there are enough pools to go around so we never had any trouble getting into the water. There was a great selection of food at the main buffet restaurant but also the themed restaurants were outstanding. The Japanese restaurant seemed to be a favourite for most of our group. As for activities outside of the resort, we visited Isla Mujeres where we rented a buggy to explore the island including the stunning beaches, the Ice Bar, Turtle Farm & the drive-through Corona Bar! I had a stag party on the Cancun strip while the wife opted for a hen party on a private boat and we all had a night together as a large group at Coco Bongos.
The Wedding Ceremony at The Riu Cancun
We were lucky enough to be married on the balcony in front of our family and friends thanks to the Riu Hotels. The weather was outstanding, I was full of nerves but as my beautiful bride walked down the aisle the nerves disappeared! It was a truly emotional moment and one that we will cherish for all time. The ceremony was short and sweet, with just us standing in front of the minister and exchanging rings. There was no need for an extravagant set-up because it already felt like we were in paradise, just some flowers to decorate the balcony and some decorative seat covers & some personal decorations which my wife had sorted herself. All the guests were seated around us as they watched this special moment unfold. I don't think any of them could've been happier than we were! We were taken along the beach for some photos after the ceremony and we were overjoyed with the outcome of them!
The Evening Beach Party at The Riu Cancun
Once the ceremony and the photos were done our guests all headed down to the beach where we had booked to have a private evening party. We had a buffet-style evening meal all set up on the beach as well as our own personal bar and staff! As the drinks were flowing and the music was playing the guests were making great use of the light-up dance floor that had been set up on the beach for us. This made a great moment for our first dance as a married couple, as we slow danced to our favourite song the guests were all waiting for the song to kick in and before long they were all dancing around us & jumping around. A true sense of adventure travel, something we still talk about now. After saying goodbye to all of our guests, we took a long walk on the beach before retiring for the evening. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect way to end an unforgettable day.
This place will always hold a special place in our hearts. Everything was perfect for the whole 2 weeks. The wedding coordinator got everything that we wanted and more, the photographer captured some unforgettable moments in the most spectacular photos and the hotel staff made the whole stay a very memorable time which has been brought to you in this blog. We are hoping to return as soon as possible!
