Cape Verde has been on the bucket list of many people around the globe, and it’s not hard to see why. It is somewhere that left us lost for words on our recent family holiday. The archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean offers beautiful beaches, stunning views, great weather, and lots of historical sites and attractions for tourists and locals alike. And when you’re planning your family travel to this paradise island, there’s one hotel that needs to be high on your list of places to stay—the Riu Touareg in Cape Verde! The 2nd largest of the Riu Hotels. Let me tell you why this resort is so perfect for you! Read on to find out why this is one of the Best family holiday destinations!
1) Accommodation at the Riu Touareg
The Riu Touareg offers a variety of accommodations, from luxury suites to standard rooms. Choose the one that best fits your needs. All of the rooms have air conditioning and satellite television. There is also a number of outdoor pools on site with a bar, so you can cool off after spending all day at the beach. The Riu Touareg is perfect for couples, family travel, or solo travelers looking for a relaxing vacation away from home. The room we stayed in was in block 5 which boasted beautiful traditional African-style rooms with a large balcony. We were very impressed with how the hotel went above and beyond for our baby by supplying a separate baby bath, this is something we have never experienced in any other hotel we have stayed in. Little things like this go a long way for us brits abroad!
2) Dining at the Riu Toaureg
As you might expect, the food at the hotel was amazing! The buffet was constantly stocked with fresh fruits, meats, and vegetables. For breakfast, there was a huge selection of cereals, eggs, bacon and sausages, toast, yogurts, juices, and fruit (we learned that our baby had a love for pineapple). Lunch had a menu that changed daily but also offered both meat dishes as well as vegetarian options. Dinner featured either buffet style at the main restaurant, which again was well stocked and changed regularly, or a chance to dine in one of the A'la Carte restaurants. We ate in the divine Italian and the traditional Cape Verde restaurant (my favourite). As you can tell there was plenty of food variation to keep it mixed throughout our stay.
3) Swim up bar at the Riu Touareg
No matter if you are a drinker or not, there is something that draws you to a swim-up bar. Fresh fruit mocktails or local beers, the choice is yours. A great way to keep hydrated and cool in the hot Boa Vista sun. I found myself subconsciously creeping ever-so-slightly closer to the bar as the day went on!
4) Excursions from the Riu Touareg
There are plenty of excursions available from the hotel from sunset BBQs to whale watching, from off-road buggying to relaxed catamaran cruises, perfect for those who love adventure travel. There is plenty of activities for all types of families. Take your pick from local excursion operators for a lower cost or if you would prefer to go with a tour operator for a piece of mind the same types of trips are available. We were lucky enough to see whales from the beach of the hotel after seeing a flock of guests running toward the seashore! What can be better on a family holiday?
5) Entertainment offered at the Riu Touareg
There is family entertainment in the square every night. If you feel up to it there was also a karaoke competition so warm up your vocal chords and pick your song! From local singers down by the pool bar to group shows on the main square stage. There is really a great range of all types of entertainment. There is also a kids club and disco run by the hotel to keep the little ones entertained.
This island is like paradise and at only a fraction of the price of the Caribbean, a perfect place for those who love family travel. We will undoubtedly be returning especially for the year-round sunshine! Click here to see more from the Dads travel republic.
